Rotary Rig

A hole is drilled by a continuously rotating bit to which downward force is applied. The bit is fastened to and rotated by the drill stem, which also provides a passageway for the circulating drilling fluid.

High frequency resonant vibrations are sent down the drill string to the drill bit. Operators are able to control the frequencies to suit the specific ground conditions. A Sonic Rig performs extremely well in difficult soil conditions. It is the fastest drilling method and most advanced drilling technique for environmental investigation.
 
Advantages for using a sonic rig for mineral exploration:

Accurate and almost totally undisturbed core samples which are quickly extracted and continuous. Core samples can be obtained from a wide variety of mineral deposits with minimal amount of disturbance and compaction.
